Ancient Artifacts Found in England
Today, I want to share some fascinating news about an incredible archaeological discovery in the United Kingdom. Picture this: over 19,000 artifacts dating all the way back to the Mesolithic period were unearthed! Yes, you heard me right.
These treasures were found at a residential development project at Calthorpe Gardens, located on the outskirts of the charming historic market town of Banbury in southern England. The contractor, Orbit Homes, who is managing the development, made this exciting announcement in a recent press release.
Among the oldest artifacts found were a group of Mesolithic flint tools, dating from 10000 BCE to 4000 BCE. Just imagine holding a tool that ancient in your hands!
But that’s not all. The site also revealed the remains of a small settlement from the Late Bronze Age or the Middle or Late Iron Age. As if that wasn't enough, an Anglo-Saxon cemetery from the early Medieval period was also discovered. Archaeologists identified the remains of 52 people, along with a variety of grave goods such as beaded necklaces, pendants, and weapons. One of the standout finds was a stunning gold pendant with an intricate intertwined serpent design.
BA field archaeologist Hayley Parsons couldn’t contain her excitement, saying in a video released by Orbit Homes, “This is a once-in-a-decade site … with once-in-a-lifetime kinds of finds that are coming up—it’s incredible.”

McLeish, another expert on the site, added, “I think the potential of the site is to show people were here over a very long period of time, doing different things at different times. We’ve been so lucky at Calthorpe Gardens, we’ve been totally spoiled with the finds that have been recovered.”
Isn't it amazing to think about all the history that has been uncovered at this one site? I can’t wait to see what else they discover. If you’re as excited about these finds as I am, drop a comment below and let’s geek out together!
