NFT Sentiment
Greetings Warriors!
I want to take a moment to review and discuss the backlash that famous YouTuber @MrBeast is facing for allegedly promoting NFTs and explore how this may impact you as a participant in the NFT space.
I chose to delve into this topic because I believe it offers insight into why views on NFT-related content have declined over the past year on social media. Many of you have expressed concerns that you are no longer getting the same number of views as you once did. I share your concerns, as I too have experienced a significant drop, going from an average of a million views to now averaging 250,000 views.
To set the tone and provide context, let's consider @MrBeast, a major philanthropist who has donated millions of dollars to charity over the years without asking for anything in return. He's receiving a considerable amount of backlash for promoting NFTs in his most recent endorsement deal. Two weeks ago, MrBeast participated in a paid sponsorship for Creator League, a new e-sports gaming platform aiming to be a direct competitor to Twitch and is attempting to top the online gaming industry. This platform has garnered support and advertisement from influential players in the e-gaming space. Interestingly, in his promotion, MrBeast made no mention of NFTs. Neither does the Creator League website.
This is the primary reason I am writing this article today. Technically, no traditional NFTs are involved in this project. While Creator League is using blockchain and NFT technology to support its reward system, there are no transferable tokens like CryptoPunks, CryptoKitties, or Bored Ape Yacht Club. It appears that Creator League may be using non-transferable, soulbound tokens for its reward system. As of now, this aspect doesn't seem directly tied to any NFT marketplace like OpenSea or Foundation, making it optional and inconspicuous.
Therefore, the motivation behind this article is clear: even a minor association with NFTs has negatively impacted this project and its promoters. This tells me all I need to know about the current sentiment surrounding NFTs, which is largely negative. Many have labeled the space as toxic due to various fraudulent schemes like rug pulls (e.g., Frosties, Big Daddy Ape Club) that have left many feeling burned. The public's understanding of NFTs remains limited, and most news coverage has been negative. This sentiment is reflected in the declining web and Twitter search results for NFTs.
However, this article isn't meant to spread doom and gloom, but rather to raise awareness. Despite the mainstream negativity around NFTs, which the recent incident involving MrBeast highlights, we as a community should strive to cast NFTs in a more positive light. This involves steering clear of drama and maintaining the highest standards of conduct (my self included), so that newcomers and veterans alike can have positive experiences and form beneficial associations within the space, and not about who has the latest twitter beef.
