Is AI Replacing Real Artists?

I noticed recently there has been a lot more resentment towards AI; trust me, I completely get it.
Just dropping in to share some thoughts swirling around my head about AI and how it’s impacting artists' and creator’s lives, shaking things up from sales to promoting in the art world (More deeper thoughts here). It's like we've invited this super-talented guest into the realm of creativity, pushing artists to pause and ponder, "What's my next move?" AI isn't just flexing its muscles; it's deeply embedded into our world now.
I have been using ChatGPT and MidJourney daily to help produce and correct much of my content for almost a year now. In that year I have seen significant improvements in the quality of AI and it’s only the beginning. Today is the worst AI will ever be, meaning with each day it improves at a rapid pace. GPT-4 from OpenAI, can literally write books. Not to be outdone, Autodesk's Project Dreamcatcher is reimagining industrial design. With AI in the picture, the creative process and our enjoyment of art are flipping into rapid pace.
Artists' Hustle in the Age of AI
As an art enthusiast, my dive into AI's impact on creativity has been eye-opening. I was on the team "Humans Forever" when it came to creativity, convinced nothing could touch the magic of human touch, emotion, and cultural vibes.
My faith in the unmatched spark of human creativity was rock solid. Then AI made its grand entrance, and boy, did it bring a wave of change. Witnessing AI's knack for crafting intricate, imaginative pieces was both mesmerizing and a bit unsettling. Initially, AI stepping into art felt like an uninvited guest at a very personal party. Watching and writing about how innovation crosses paths with various domains, the thought of AI encroaching on art—a space I saw as deeply personal and human—was a tough pill to swallow
The age-old artist struggle got a new twist with AI taking on creative gigs, making the scene even tougher for human artists. AI tools are out here, doing the job quicker and cheaper, cranking up the competition. With these tools only getting better, artists are staring down the barrel of dwindling pay, shrinking job opportunities, and financial jitters.
Now, creatives are wrestling with big questions about their place in this AI-infused landscape. If machines can mimic or even outdo human creativity, where does that leave the artist's craft and voice? This hits close to many of my friends in the art community, who've poured their hearts into honing their skills. They're left wondering about the worth of their training, the value of their abilities, and their prospects in a world where AI's the new headliner. Keeping pace with tech advancements, while dodging stress and burnout, is becoming a Herculean task.
Merging AI with art isn't just about the tech. It's sparking intense debates on what creativity really means, challenging our views on originality, the essence of art, and the evolving identity of the artist. These aren't just academic musings; they're crucial for navigating our shifting sands.
Can We Jam with AI?
As I navigate this brave new world of AI-driven art, my stance is slowly but surely taking shape. The road ahead is murky, but one thing's clear: AI's role in our creative endeavors is only going to grow. I see AI as another brush in our kit, broadening the spectrum of human expression. My journey from skeptic to cautiously embracing AI in art reflects the broader societal dance with these tech wonders. AI's prowess is soaring in music, writing, the visual arts, and marketing.
